Woodrow James
My Name is Woodrow James and I was born and raised in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. I have been training different martial arts over the past 8 years. I believe my forte would be muay thai kickboxing since I trained under many Canadian champions within the sport. My head trainers are professional fighter’s Chris Clements and John Fraser. I have an undefeated record of 4 wins and 0 losses in amateur mixed martial arts and a record of 7-2 in amateur kickboxing.
A few years ago while training for upcoming kickboxing event I was injured and was unable to train or work my regular job. Instead of being depressed over this set back I decided to study courses of business management. This is the road that led me to managing some of the area’s top athletes and help guide them in the right direction concerning sponsorship and setting up upcoming competitions. During this time a friend contacted me about an upcoming event very close to the border between my hometown of Sarnia and Port Huron, Michigan. This was the first time I had been introduced to the Xtreme Cagefighting Championship and CEO Matt Flynn.
Matt and I became close friends and started working right away on what would become the area’s top MMA event “Battle at the Border”. These events matched up teams of Canadian athletes versus their American counterparts. After such a successful event in August of 2008 we continued the themed event over the next couple years growing each event by attendance, quality of competitor’s as well as evenly matched fights. Also earning a stint on Fox Sports Detroit where over 3 million viewers tuned into to watch both my co-promoting of the event as well as my second career victory in the sport.
Since that summer event I have regularly been an active member of XCC staff by co-promoting and helping with matchmaking various events throughout the state of Michigan. Other companies also took notice when one of the world’s top promotions King of the Cage joined Matt Flynn and I in April of 2009 to promote a USA Vs Canada event which attracted spectator’s from coast to coast from the two countries.
My goal is to make XCC the first company to hold events in both Michigan and Ontario when the sport becomes legal on the North side of the border. Here’s to 2010 for this to finally happen.
