LEGENDARY BUTTERBEAN HEADLINES WEEKEND OF MMA AT EMERALD BALLROOM!

This Friday and Saturday, March 5 and 6, at the Emerald Ballroom in Mt Clemens, Michigan, Greg Ahrens’ TMS Fight Night will present Xtreme Cagefighting Championship’s “Beat Down at the Ballroom 8 and 9” -- two spectacular nights of elite mixed martial arts.

This spectacular event is presented in association with Matt Flynn of the XCC, UCF Cage Combat and Carlos Llinas of CLIP.

The highlight of the weekend will be Saturday’s professional main event when none other than world-famous Eric “Butterbean" Esch will go for the XCC Super Heavyweight Championship against the XCC’s current champ, Jeff "The Predator" Kugel of Roseville.

“Most people know Butterbean for his boxing and for being the 400-lb ‘King of the Four Rounders’. But he’s also an accomplished mixed martial artist,” explained Flynn. “He’s fought in K-1 and in Pride and done extremely well. And his opponent, Jeff Kugel stands 6” 7” tall and was an All-State wrestler and Golden Glove boxer. He’s a bad boy who is suspended for life from the Ontario Hockey League. This is going to be a sensational battle for the fans coming out Saturday night. You know what you get with Butterbean – Jeff Kugel is the same kind of guy. This is going to be a stand-up war between two super heavyweight destroyers and someone is going down.”

On Friday night, March 5, The Emerald Ballroom will be rocking as the State’s top amateur fighters take to the cage for “Beat Down at the Ballroom 8”.

14 fights are scheduled. In the main event Steve Gatto of Shelby Township will face Marcelo Solinas of Sarnia, Ontario, for the XCC Middleweight Championship vacated by Caleb Grummet (Grummet is now a professional and will fight on Saturday night). Also, XCC Heavyweight champion Carnell Giles will be making his third title defense.

And then on Saturday, March 6, just the second professionally sanctioned MMA event in the state’s history will take place (Flynn and Ahrens also did the first last January), topped by the Butterbean main event and supported by a roll-call of fighters who make up the area’s best, including Miquel Barcelo, Brett Biederman, Chris Bourdon, Parris Boyd, Brad Burrick, Daron Cruickshank, Jeremy Czarnecki, Anthony Gott, Jesse Gross, Caleb Grummet, Bo Harris, Chris Harris, David Herlein, Dan Langbeen, Ray Lopez, Chucky Mady, Steve Milliron, Ali Mokdad, William Penn, Calvin O'Neil, Mike Roberts, Anthony Smith, Michael Sparks, Harley Wallen, Dan Whetsel and TJ Yakuber.

Flynn and his XCC, whose mixed martial arts career began at the very same Emerald Ballroom, says he’s excited about the atmosphere surrounding the weekend. “The fans lucky enough to get a ticket for either night are guaranteed a night of non-stop action – and the best part is it’s where it all started for the XCC right here in the Ballroom.”

On Friday, March 5, doors open at 6:30 and the action starts at 7:30. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com or the Emerald Theatre box office (586) 913-1920 and are priced between $25 and $75. VIP seats are available starting at $180. Group sales are also available by calling (248) 202-4662.

On Saturday, March 6, doors open at 7:00 and the action starts at 8:00. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com or the Emerald Theatre box office (586) 913-1920 and are priced between $30 and $100. Flynn Departs King of the Cage
Takes Position with Heavy-Hitting New Outfit

It is with mixed emotions that XCC President and Founder Matt Flynn announces he is leaving the King of the Cage promotion to accept the position of Director of Operations for the brand-new East West Fighting Championships organization.

"I'd like to thank King of the Cage owner, Terry Trebilcock, for all his support and partnership through the years. The time we spent together was a tremendous learning experience and I will continue to do all I can to support Terry and his wonderful organization."

Flynn ran promotions for King of the Cage in Florida, Georgia, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin and Michigan and many past XCC champions including Eric Moon, Daron Cruickshank, Caleb Grummet, and Ben Lagman are now fighting for King of the Cage. Flynn says his Xtreme Cagefighting Championship will remain a source of fighters for King of the Cage, however, his new position at the EWFC makes it impossible to give 100% to both organizations and continue to run shows for KOTC.

"I will be moving on with nothing but fondness for my time spent with King of the Cage and I wish them tremendous luck in the future. (EWFC President) Mike Jones and I are looking at the tremendous potential of this new organization and I think it's time to move on to new opportunities. The EWFC is looking to make an impact all over the world in MMA and I'm happy to be a part of it.

The EWFC's first event is scheduled for June 5 at the 20,000-seat Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Shows are also in development for Montreal and Holland later this year.
